Your Destination Wedding Guide to Tuscany

You’re getting married in Tuscany! That means saying “I Do” in one of the most breathtaking regions in the world.

Tuscany is a very special place to say the least, because it combines a very modern Italy with a land where time has stood still. You’ll find ancient medieval castles or charming villas surrounded by olive groves as far as the eye can see. You will revel in the stunning vineyards and green hills covered with cultivated fields. It all sounds very poetic, but once you’re there, you will see that it actually is!

With its capital Florence, millions of tourists visit Tuscany yearly. It is after all, where the Renaissance was first born.

We know how stressful planning your upcoming destination wedding in Italy is! That’s why we created a short guide to Tuscany to make sense of this gorgeous part of the world. As a result, it’ll make your logistical arrangements that much easier!

Tuscany Wedding Locations

Florence

Florence provides one of the most incredible settings for a destination wedding in Italy. This breathtaking Tuscan city is a place where art and culture can be experienced in almost every detail around you. Walk around the impressive stone palaces and dream on the romantic Ponte Vecchio bridge. You’ll see why Florence is considered one of Italy’s most unique gems! The city delivers a variety of wedding venues to choose from. Whether its hilltop castles or ancient villas and estates surrounded by green hills! Such venues include Villa Le Piazzole and Villa di Striano, historical gems right outside of the busy Florence city-center, both nestled in the cozy green havens of peace and beauty, while offering the best comfort for their guests to indulge in.

Also whether it’s a civil or religious ceremony you’re opting for, Florence has you covered. You can have a civil ceremony in the Palazzo Vecchio or in Florence’s city hall. For a religious church wedding ceremony, you have more than enough options to choose from, as historic churches are scattered across the city!

Chianti and Siena

With its vast vineyards, olive trees, and colorfully blended landscapes, it’s no surprise that Chianti represents the inspiration behind so many movies and works of art. Famous for its special red wine, the Chianti Classic, this area provides a wide array of beautiful venues to choose from. Majestic castles, stone mansions and widely popular hamlets or borgos are the perfect setting for a romantic and authentic Italian-style wedding! Set between Florence and Siena, Chianti is also dotted with charming towns, historic wine estates, and lush vineyards. This provides the perfect opportunity for you and your wedding guests to enjoy some fun outdoor activities while sipping on some of the finest wine this area has to offer!

Siena is considered Italy’s most strikingly beautiful medieval cities and one of the most popular Tuscany wedding locations.  Besides the beauty of its landscapes, what makes Siena truly remarkable is its food which comes in a variety of tastes, ranging from the pure rustic to the more refined Tuscan cuisines. Siena’s wedding receptions are no different as you can opt for a charming boho chic style event at a venue like Locanda in Tuscany, set against the beautiful backdrop of the deep reds of the Chianti and Montalcino areas or go for a completely lavish affair with a more luxury countryside feel!

Grosseto and Maremma

Maremma is a stunning area in southern Tuscany that stretches between the sea and the mountains, and is surrounded by Grosseto. That’s right, Tuscany has an entire landscape that overlooks the sea (and we thought it couldn’t get better than this)! This dual setting makes it a unique location for a destination wedding in Italy. Wedding venues like Gallia Palace for example, provide the perfect luxurious setup for a beachside wedding set against the surrounding Tuscan countryside setting.

Transportation:

One of the main concerns of international flyers – specially coming from the US – is which airport to fly to in order to get to Tuscany. You have 2 options at hand:

  1. Florence International Airport (FLR)
  2. Pisa International Airport (PSA), also named Galileo Galilei Airport, which is the main airport in Tuscany.

If you’re landing in Rome first, don’t worry! You can take a train ride on a scenic route of 2 hours and a half, and arrive straight into the heart of Tuscany.

Reminder: the “treno regionale” or regional trains, are a very practical means of transport within a specific Italian area.

Activities:

Tuscany is a buzzing region with landscapes and activities that would suit all tastes. Destination weddings are a great opportunity for your guests to unwind and enjoy well-deserved holidays! So organizing fun trips under the Tuscan sun is the way to go! You can find a lot of touring packages online. Ask your venue, they will also arrange it for you. We’ve done our part and selected a few that cover most of the main Tuscan attractions:

  • History: You can explore the medieval town of San Gimignano with its charming squares and cobbled streets, palaces and churches.
  • Gastronomy: You can tour Chianti’s traditional wineries for tastings and a mouth-watering traditional Italian lunch
  • Entertainment: If you happen to be in Siena on July 2nd or August 16th, you can head to “Il Palio”, which is a medieval horse race that’s held twice a year.
  • Mainstream tourism: Check out the leaning Tower of Pisa, and try your luck with a better perspective souvenir photo!

A Tuscan wedding is what dreams are made of! We’ll also be there every step of the way to help you plan the most important occasion of your life.
